The CoA's forgotten ghetto.
I have to say that I am rather fond of the facility we have at the CoA. Yes the crit rooms are rather awful in terms of ventilation, and the pit is a bit messy (I actually like it that way), but for the most part I really like our building. However, there is one place in our building that I find truly sad. The "student lounge," a place in which I have not once seen a student lounging, fails (miserably) to live up to its potential. The space obviously needs to be dynamic because it sees use as everything from storage to crit room to indoor pit, but right now it's just sort of barren, bland, and messy. I think the Buddha Lounge is a good example of how forgotten secondary spaces can become useful once they are infused with a little bit of design and flavor. So I ask my fellow design students, if this is our lounge, why does it suck so much? "What about the ARCafĂ©," you might ask. "Well let's face it," I would respond, "ever since they derailed the already uncomfortable seats and tables, it's a bit of a train wreck." The student lounge could be the perfect place to cram for history or structures late at night, have AIAS meetings after studio, and maybe even show special exhibits like sketches and photos from travel abroad programs… so why isn't it? Is anyone interested in revitalizing this space?

Danish design = very yes.

Could we please get these to replace the hideous green, purple, and maroon ones we have now? Seriously this company makes some beautiful furniture. I'm thinking with all of the extra money we'll be getting from the merger, we should totally get new chairs. Surely sitting in these during crits would somehow enhance our education, right?
